We strive to breed only the highest quality bearded dragons!!
My name is David Freeman and I would like to welcome you to our Carolina Classic Dragons site! My love for reptiles started many years ago when my family was stationed in El Paso, Texas (yes, I am an Army brat). I was only 4 years old at the time and we had a neighbor that had quite the collection of snakes and lizards. My mother recognized my fascination (thanks mom!) and took me over to visit often. I was hooked! As I grew into my teens, I became very involved with the Boy Scouts of America and always looked forward to the week long adventures in the woods attending summer camp at Camp Bowers. I spent countless hours hunting rat snakes, king snakes, fence lizards, anoles, box turtles, etc. Out of all the merit badges I had to earn to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, I am still most proud of my “Reptiles” merit badge. Just something about the badge picturing a snake with its mouth open and fangs showing! I went on to attend National Camp School and became an Ecology Director at Camp Bowers for several years. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to teach young scouts all about environmental science and you can imagine that the subject of reptiles was my favorite thing to teach. We built a very large outdoor enclosure and had a great variety of indigenous reptiles on hand so the scouts all got an up close and personal encounter with animals that many feared before camp. They left with a better understanding and appreciation for these beautiful, fascinating creatures.Fast forward a couple of years to 1991 and I was graduating from North Carolina State University (Go Pack!!) with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. It was during my college years that my love of reptiles really exploded. I was fortunate enough to work for the current President of the Nashville Zoo, Rick Schwartz. Rick had an exotic pet store in Raleigh and working for him was like a dream come true. Rick’s love for reptiles was infectious and he taught me a lot about a wide variety of species and the importance of captive breeding. I started breeding a variety of boa constrictors and pythons throughout the following years.
I eventually learned more about the bearded dragon and kept hearing how awesome they were. I purchased a couple and it didn’t take long to fall in love with this lizard. In 2007, I decided to turn my bearded dragon hobby into a business…Carolina Classic Dragons was born!
Here at CCD, we focus on producing a strong, large bodied dragon with a great temperament and beautiful coloration. We pride ourselves in being able to offer high end red bearded dragons, citrus bearded dragons as well as different genetics including, leatherbacks and witblit bearded dragons. Of course, a HEALTHY dragon is our #1 concern. CCD dragons are fed organic greens, most of which are raised right here in our own garden plots. Our dragons get a wide variety starting at a very young age. Collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, etc. Also, organic dandelion, clover and hibiscus are part of our dragon’s diets. Our feeder insects are gut loaded and We also do our own fecals to make sure our adult breeders and our babies stay clear of the many internal parasites that can sicken a bearded dragon.
Please do your homework, ask questions, and make sure you are ready to meet all of the husbandry needs the bearded dragon requires. We will post up baby bearded dragons for sale on our available page. Feel free to email us if we can answer any questions. We want to earn your business!
